Texas A&M Student Arrested for Drug Possession and Alcohol-Related Offense
On August 11, 2024, 20-year-old Paris Taylor Rendon was arrested by the Texas A&M University Police Department on two charges and booked with a total bond set at $7,200. Rendon, a Richmond, Texas resident, is described as 5’7” tall, weighing 140 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
She was charged with minor in possession of alcohol, a common offense for individuals under 21 found with alcoholic beverages, which resulted in a $1,200 bond granted on a personal recognizance agreement. More significantly, she was also charged with possession of a controlled substance in Penalty Group 2 (less than one gram), a state jail felony under Texas law, which carried a $6,000 surety bond. Controlled substances under Penalty Group 2 typically include hallucinogens such as MDMA (Ecstasy), psilocybin mushrooms, and certain synthetic cannabinoids. A conviction for possession in this category can result in a state jail sentence ranging from six months to two years and fines up to $10,000.
This is not Rendon’s first arrest. Earlier in the year, on January 21, 2024, she was arrested by the College Station Police Department for racing on a highway, a Class B misdemeanor that can carry penalties of up to 180 days in jail and a $2,000 fine. She was also charged with minor driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI) for a first offense, a Class C misdemeanor with fines up to $500, which resulted in a $300 personal recognizance bond.
Given the escalation in charges, this latest arrest could lead to stricter legal consequences, especially with the drug possession charge classified as a felony. If convicted, she could face serious penalties, including a criminal record that may impact her education, employment, and future opportunities.
