Belton Woman’s Repeated Traffic Violations Raise Safety Concerns in Anderson County

Madison Grace Gunter, a 20-year-old resident of Belton, South Carolina, was arrested on March 12, 2025, at approximately 10:17 p.m. by Anderson County authorities following yet another incident involving unsafe driving and a suspended license. Gunter, who resides on the 200 block of Sherwood Drive, was charged with Driving Under Suspension (license not suspended for DUI) – 2nd Offense under South Carolina Code § 56-1-460(A)(1), and Driving at a Greater Speed Than Reasonable Under Conditions, a general violation of traffic law intended to prevent reckless or unsafe driving in adverse or congested conditions. A second offense for driving under suspension carries penalties including a fine of up to $647 or imprisonment for up to 60 days, depending on judicial discretion.

This most recent arrest marks a continued pattern of dangerous and unlawful behavior behind the wheel, escalating concerns among law enforcement and community members alike. Gunter’s record reveals an increasingly problematic driving history dating back at least to early 2024. On November 30, 2024, she was cited for the same two offenses—driving under suspension (1st offense) and unreasonable speed. Just one month prior, on October 30, 2024, she faced three additional charges: Uninsured Motor Vehicle Fee Violation (1st offense) under § 56-10-240, Driving Under Suspension (1st offense) again under § 56-1-460, and Speeding more than 25 mph over the limit, a serious traffic infraction that often results in increased fines, points on the license, and potential license revocation.

Earlier that year, on February 24, 2024, Gunter pled guilty to Striking Fixtures Adjacent to the Highway and Failing to Report (a violation of § 56-5-1270), and yet again, Driving at an Unreasonable Speed. The incident likely involved property damage, which could carry civil as well as criminal consequences depending on whether repairs were compensated. In yet another prior violation dated September 11, 2024, she received a ticket for Unlawful Turning from the Wrong Lane. On it’s own, nothing, but another strike for this baddie.

The cumulative record paints a troubling picture of habitual traffic law violations, including failure to maintain insurance, excessive speeding, multiple offenses related to driving with a suspended license, and disregard for roadway safety. Under South Carolina law, repeat violations can lead to extended license suspension, mandatory SR-22 insurance filings, higher fines, and even jail time. If Gunter accumulates additional offenses or fails to comply with sentencing requirements, she may face more severe penalties including permanent license revocation or longer-term incarceration.

As her infractions mount, Gunter’s case may become a cautionary example of the importance of traffic law enforcement in reducing roadway hazards and protecting public safety.
