Spring breaker arrest on Multiple Charges, Including False ID and Underage Alcohol Possession
With all of the negative things going on in the world in March 2020, we found one glimmer of light—this arrest. While the world was grappling with uncertainty, one incident in Destin, Florida, brought a brief, albeit unexpected, distraction.
On March 8, 2020, at 11:00 PM, Samantha Gayle Nesslein, then 20 years old, was arrested on multiple charges, including providing false identification to law enforcement, obstructing an officer without violence, and possession of alcohol by a person under 21. Nesslein, who currently resides in Prairie Village, Kansas, was booked at the time of her arrest while residing on Ash Street. She is described as a 5’2” female weighing 105 pounds.
Providing false identification to law enforcement is a misdemeanor offense in Kansas, carrying potential penalties of up to six months in jail and fines reaching $1,000. Nesslein also faces a charge of obstruction without violence, which refers to interfering with a police officer’s duties, a misdemeanor that could lead to up to one year in jail and fines up to $2,500. Additionally, she was charged with possession of alcohol by a person under 21, a Class C misdemeanor punishable by fines up to $500, potential community service, suspension of driving privileges, and mandatory alcohol education. Her bonds were set at $350 for the false ID charge and $1,000 each for the obstruction and underage alcohol possession charges.
The legal system treats offenses involving obstruction and underage alcohol possession seriously, particularly when combined with providing false information to law enforcement. First-time offenders may have the option of diversion programs, but multiple charges in one incident can complicate the case.
Nesslein was expected to appear in court to address the charges. Authorities in Walton County, Florida emphasize the importance of compliance with law enforcement and the risks associated with underage drinking. Let’s be real, most of us have done this, especially on spring break, we just didn’t get caught. This case serves as a reminder of the legal consequences that can arise from seemingly minor offenses.
